I’ve partnered with One Degree Organics to bring you these delicious, vegan pumpkin apple overnight oats. All opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that support Well and Full!
Being a food and lifestyle blogger often feels strange: you publish pieces of your life and perspective online, and those posts stay put while you continue to change. Readers may only see snapshots of who you were in a given moment, and sometimes you’ll look back and notice how much you’ve learned since then. In my mid-twenties this has been especially apparent — there’s a lot of personal evolution packed into a short time.
When I launched Well and Full I was 22, working in a corporate setting, and following a strict vegan diet. A few years and a lot of experience later, approaching my 25th birthday, I find myself in a place I didn’t anticipate. Looking back, I occasionally stumble across older writing and think, “What was I thinking?” Those early posts reflected who I was then, but they don’t always match who I am now.
I recently mentioned on Instagram how I used to judge my own food choices harshly and even criticized others for not eating the way I did. I remember a specific moment when another blogger, Tara from The Whole Tara, shared that she no longer followed a vegan diet. At that time I was very entrenched in my own beliefs and wrote a long, judgmental comment that, in hindsight, felt self-righteous. To Tara — if you read this — I’m genuinely sorry for how I came across. That experience taught me that advocacy can easily become alienating when it turns into shaming.
My perspective shifted further after I publicly shared changes in my own diet. The negative responses I received made it clear how quickly an opinionated tone can create division. That response was a wake-up call: it’s possible to be passionate about the things you care about without putting others down. I strive now to communicate with kindness and humility, even when I feel strongly.
For me, the issues I care about most are centered on sustainable food practices. I support local farmers, small businesses, and producers who prioritize organic methods and reduced environmental impact. That’s why a brand like One Degree Organics resonates with me — they are family-owned and emphasize traceability, allowing customers to learn about a product’s journey from harvest to package. Food that is raised and handled with care tends to be more enjoyable, and buying thoughtfully supports the people and practices behind those ingredients.
This post is really a mix of personal reflection and a simple, comforting recipe. I hope it shows that food choices and advocacy don’t have to be rigid or judgmental. We all come from different backgrounds and make decisions for our own reasons, and treating each other with respect makes conversations about food far more productive.
Here are the main points I want to leave you with:
- You can promote meaningful food values without shaming others.
- Supporting transparent, small-scale food producers matters.
- Choosing kindness and grace will never be something you regret.
